Mongui, who was raised by his uncle Manchi, devoted his entire life to collecting Judaica and Antillana books and newspaper clippings. His collection eventually resulted in a fully functioning reference library, which was accomplished by his daughter Ena in 2010. Mongui his grandfather, Monchi, was a genius businessman who purchased Rooi Catootje in 1853 and built a legacy that continues today.
Their personal stories and influence on Curaçao’s social and economic history combined with authentic antiques and heirlooms displayed, enrich the journey through time and revive this historical.

Four Generations Levy Maduro and owners of Landhuis Rooi Catootje since 1853
George Maduro, a great-grandson of S.E.L. Maduro and cousin of Ena, was a law student who served as a Dutch officer during World War II (1940–1945). His exceptional courage, ingenuity, and unwavering loyalty were evident when he thwarted a German attack in The Hague, Netherlands. Tragically, he passed away in the Dachau concentration camp just before liberation. George’s heroic deeds were posthumously recognized with the Knight 4th class of the Military Order of William, the highest and oldest military decoration in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In tribute to George, the miniature city Madurodam and the Maduroplein in Scheveningen were named after him.
