The museum situated in former plantation house Rooi Catootje, from 1735, invites visitors into a world where history comes alive. As you step inside this historic house, it’s not just a visit to a museum; it’s a captivating adventure through time. The museum used to be the library. As you walk through the museum, you still come across cabinets that once served as archive space.
The museum exhibition tells the fascinating story of the Sephardic Jewish Levy Maduro family, a tale filled with passion, determination and an enduring legacy, whilst uncovering the profound impact this remarkable family had on the social, cultural and economic history and development of Curaçao. During your visit you will delve into the lives of the last four family members, who were the owners of this former plantation house, since its acquisition in 1853 by Salomon E. Levy Maduro.
His grandson, Mongui Maduro, started collecting books and newspaper clippings at the age of 14, which resulted in a fully functioning reference library. It focuses on two distinct categories: Judaica and Antillana.

- Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm
- Every first Saturday of the month from 9 am to 2 pm
For (private-) groups we can open the doors by appointment outside opening hours.
